Team,
Saturday 1/4 Final Play-Offs
We are in the quarter finals of the Texas High Schools Rugby Championships and our match is to be played this Saturday, April 19th at Lake Highlands Park against The Woodlands.
There are also Men’s Division II championship matches being played as well as our Plano U15s, U13s and U11s so there will be a lot of rugby going on.
The U19 match is against The Woodlands at 2:00 pm on Field 2.
Please plan to be there by no later than 12:30 in case we have to do a team “check in”.
Meet at PSHS at 12:00 to car pool. If you need a ride send an email.
Directions:
Lake Highlands Park is located at the corner of Lake Highlands Road and Buckner Blvd.
Go south on Central Expressway and exit onto LBJ (635) going East.
Go for about 5 miles and take the Church Road exit 14 toward Plano Road.
Turn right onto Plano road and after a couple of miles it becomes Lake Highlands Drive.
A mile and a half later Lake Highlands Drive dead ends into Buckner Blvd.
The Rugby fields are on the left before you get to Buckner Blvd.
Parking (limited) is on Lake Highland Road adjacent the fields and also on Buckner Blvd. There may be some over flow parking on Lake Highlands Drive north of the fields. Field 2 is the one that runs parallel to Buckner Blvd.
Look for the Plano tent with the Plano sign near where the juniors are playing
Practice:
Not many people get a chance to play in a State Championship at any sport. If we’re even half serious at getting to the finals YOU ALL need to make an effort to get to practice tomorrow night.
End-of season banquet – possibly April 26 or 27th.
We are still trying to secure the South Fork location for this to have all the Plano teams and parents gathered together and have a barbecue with some parent/son touch rugby etc., and other fun activities. We are looking to do this possibly on April 26th around mid-day or April 27th in the late afternoon.
Alternative picnic park locations are also being sourced in Frisco. So stand by.

To parents and players,
Saturday’s Matches canceled:
Unfortunately, the decision has been made to cancel the rugby matches planned for Glencoe Park tomorrow on account of the forecasted inclement weather. As well as the predicted heavy rain, there are thunderstorms expected as well.
Well plan to add on an additional week to the end of the season to make up for losing this Saturday.
PSA Sports Fair and Rugby Recruiting:
Every year, PSA has a Sports Fair week-end and one is taking place tomorrow. Rusty Greer will be with there with other notables and it attracts a lot of kids. We participated last year and got some new recruits to come out to rugby.
We want to do this again tomorrow seeing as rugby has been cancelled and would like parents and their sons to volunteer to come out and promote rugby to the many kids who will be there.
The sports fair is from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. However we’d like to also catch the many basketball players coming in for their last regular match of the season and see if we can convince them to play rugby.
We’d like to man our rugby information table from 10:00 am through to 5:00 pm.
You’re all asked to volunteer at least one hour of your time – parent and son. We’ll have flyers to hand out and CDs showing Plano youth playing rugby and a large Plano Youth banner. We’d like the boys to come out in rugby kit and bring a ball if they have one. We’ll have some team rugby shirts available for wear.
Please reply and indicate which time slots you can cover and provide a second and if possible a third option so we can spread the cover across the time frame.
Your participation will be very much appreciated.

Please read through the whole email!
1. We have a “Merit” match against Jesuit Rangers at Jesuit this Friday at 7:00 pm. Players need to be there by 6:00pm. If you want to car pool be at Plano Senior High Parking lot (by the indoor field) at 5:15 pm to leave no later than 5:30pm. If you plan on going to Jesuit directly, directions are attached.
2. This “Merit” match counts towards the city championships. We have not had a lot of time to prepare and it is important that we have a full turnout to practice this Thursday.
3. To play in the Jesuit match and any other match in the forthcoming season, you MUST be registered. If you have not already done so you can register online at www.psaplano.org with a credit card or call PSA at 972 208-5437, or pay by check at PSA, 6500 Preston Meadows Drive. The fee for the season is $125. From this $35 goes to PSA, $30 to USA & Western Rugby Unions, and $30 to Texas Rugby Union. What is left is what we use to pay for lights, field usage equipment etc.
4. Please register with PSA as soon as possible as we then have to register you with USA Rugby. You WILL NOT be allowed to play in the match without this registration. This is a USA and Texas Rugby Union rule. We have to submit lists to the referee to show that all players in the match are registered.
5. I would really appreciate it if everyone who is committed to playing rugby this season can get registered with PSA by Wednesday at the latest. Then I can complete the registration work with USA rugby. If you need help with the registration fee let me or coach Frank know. We can arrange installment payments or whatever else makes sense.
6. If you have just started rugby and are not yet sure of participating, you can wait to register later, BUT you will not be able to play this Friday.
7. It will be cold Friday evening and possibly raining. In addition the Jesuit Stadium is usually 5 degrees colder than anywhere else! You have been warned! Come prepared!
8. All players must be properly kitted out. This means having a mouth piece and proper black rugby shorts and socks. We have shorts for $20 and socks for $5 which you can purchase at Thursday’s practice. Team shirts will be provided for the match. Please bring exact change if possible. You can pay by check made out to PSA Rugby.
9. Please note that if you are wearing football cleats, the front toe is illegal for rugby and must be removed or cut off. There will be a boot inspection by the referee before the match starts. The Jesuit stadium is artificial turf.
10. There will be alight practice for the U19s/U17s this Sunday at Schimelpfenig at 3:00 pm. Please bring out anyone interested in checking out rugby.
11. Attached is the latest match schedule. Please note that there have been some changes and that we now play Coppell at 3:00 pm in Plano on Feb. 9th instead of February 2nd. The late start is due to ACTs in the morning on that day. February 2nd is open at the moment but we’ll try and get a scrimmage in if possible. The other change is that we will be going down to play in the A&M tournament on March 29th, so please clear your calendars for this.
12. Also attached is the current roster. Please check that the information I have for you is correct. If you know anyone who has been to practice and intends to play rugby whose name is not on the list then please call me with their phone number.
13. Please get used to checking your email. I’ll text information occasionally but you don’t all have text. Also whatever information is emailed is also put in the email section on the web site at www.planorugby.com.
Please read the above email again and take note of details and any appropriate action needed

Registration - Sent 1/16/2008
To all U17/U19 players,
It is a rule of the USA, West and Texas Rugby Unions that no contact rugby is played without a player having been registered through USA Rugby (CIPP). We cannot play ANY player who is not CIPP registered in any of our upcoming Merit and CUP matches. At every match we have to hand in a CIPP list to the referee and the opposing team to show that everyone playing on our team has been CIPP registered.
We (the Club) pay for CIPP fees and register you with USA Rugby, the West and Texas Rugby Unions from the money collected when you pay the PSA rugby registration fee of $125
So, as many of you are returning players and know that you will be playing rugby this season, NOW is the time to pay your $125 registration fee through PSA so we can take care of all of the rest. You can do this by registering online and paying with a credit card through the PSA web site at www.psaplano.org. Or you can phone PSA at 972 208-5437 and again use a credit card to register. You can also pay by check by going to PSA and filling out a registration form. PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW!
Please do so before the end of this week. It is imperative that we aren’t chasing you to do this before the Jesuit match on Jan 26th.
For the scrimmage against Allen on Thursday, we need to have every player sign a waiver of liability form. (attached). I have sent one of these out before and coach Frank has a bunch as well. Please take care of this and bring it with you on Thursday.
I look forward to having everyone registered soon. If anyone has a problem paying the full registration now, please contact me so we can make arrangements.

Parents and players,
The last U19 CUP match tomorrow against the CityplaceDallas `Quins starts at 7:30 pm at Jack Carter Park. Let's end on a high note.
In case of rain. Please check the PSA Web site at www.psaplano.org after 4:00 pm tomorrow to see if the match has had to be cancelled because of field closing on account of the weather. If fields are not closed at 4:00 pm check our site www.planorugby.com after 5:30 pm in case we get a call to say the fields have been closed. We MAY be able to get the PSHS indoor facility for practice. This information will be on the web site.
Match re-schedule: If the match is cancelled tomorrow it will be re-scheduled for next week - probably Thursday night.
Extending the season. We are looking at getting some more fixtures for April
1. Sat 7th April Easter. This is when we traditionally play our Alumni match. This year we will change the format to “sevens” rugby and have mini tournament with Alumni and DARC. This will probably be from 10:00am - 1:00 pm or so.
2. Sat April 14th or Sat April 21st we are trying to arrange a mini sevens tournament with other clubs in the area.
3. Additionally we are trying to arrange U17s/JV matches with Fort Worth, Allen and Bishop Dunne and are looking at the possibility of U19 matches against a couple of Oklahoma teams.
Please let me know if will be available on April 7th.
End of Season team party. Please decide what you would like to do and when.
Seniors: Please let me know what you'll be doing and where you are going next year. We like to keep up with our Alumni. Please be aware that your CIPP registration withUSA rugby is good through to the end of the year. If you decide to play rugby at whatever college you're going to, you can transfer this registration to the college club for the fall season. You can find what your CIPP number is through the USA Rugby web site at www.USARugby.Org. If you are going to a local college, like CCCC, or just staying locally, please consider playing for DARC, our adult club. There are now 11 Plano Rugby Alumni playing for DARC, including Zee, who is a USA Sevens national player.
Team Club Jerseys. If you ordered a Plano Club jersey and haven't claimed or paid for yours yet, I'll have them with me at practice this week. I will have a couple of extras and some more are on order if anyone still wants to order, but available sizes may be limited. These are $40 each and includes the Plano Rugby logo.
Lost and found. A silver cross and neck chain were found at Jack Carter Park last Saturday. Claimants please call me.
Dalla Desparados rugby exhibition. A reminder to let me know if you'd like spectator tickets to the Monday, April 16th Dallas Desperados arena football at the AA Center. We will be playing a 10-on-10 exhibition rugby match against Jesuit after the Desperados game, around 9:00 pm. Tickets are $20 each. We will nominate a twelve player team and those players will get free tickets. Please let me know your availability on that date.

U19s CUP match versus Jesuit:
The cup match tomorrow, Thursday March 1st against Jesuit starts at 7:30 pm and is followed immediately after by the JV/U17s match. This is our first home match and we’d like as many supporting spectators as possible. Please invite friends and other possibly interested people to experience the wonderful spectacle of rugby!
Spring Break
There will be no practices during spring break but we have entered the Jesuit Tournament which takes place on Saturday and half day Sunday March 10th/11th, and would like a full turn out to this three match tournament against teams from Texas and other states. More information about start times etc. will follow. The web site at www.planorugby.com will be updated with Jesuit tournament information as it becomes available.
Registration:
If you have not already registered with PSA, this needs to be done immediately by calling PSA at 972 208-5437 and registering over the phone with a credit card, visiting PSA at 6500 Preston Meadow and paying by check or registering online by accessing www.psaplano.org. You can also give me a completed PSA registration form (attached) with a check made out to PSA Rugby or cash and I’ll get it to PSA.
We must pay not only a PSA $35 fee per player but also pay USA rugby $30 per player fee as well as Texas and Western Rugby union fees in addition to our operating expenses (lights, fields etc.)
We also need players to be registered for liability purposes and players who are not registered with USA rugby WILL NOT be allowed to play.
The registration fee for those players who have only recently joined will be reduced from the $125 according to when the player started practices. If you started rugby after February 10th, please see me for a reduced registration fee.
Club rugby jersey.
The attached rugby jersey is currently being used as the U15s team shirt and we are adopting this as a club rugby jersey for Parents and Players who would like having an authentic Plano rugby jersey to wear.. This jersey will have the Plano Rugby logo embroidered on the left breast. Prices are $40 for adult sizes S, M, L, XL, and XXL and $35 for youth sizes 8 (XS), 10(S), and 12(M). Above this the youth sizes are similar to the adult sizes. If you’d like to order please email me the size and quantity. We’ll arrange to collect payment by check or cash at practices and matches. The reason we have selected this shirt is that it has the city of Plano colors (red, white and blue), is also available in the USA at short notice, plus they generally have the adult sizes in stock. These jerseys are authentic rugby jerseys made of 100% heavy weight cotton with an engineered stripe, rib trim and twill placket and collar, and have been pre-shrunk. I’ll have a sample at practice should anyone want to see how they look.
I would like any orders emailed to me by Saturday March 3rd so we can send our order to the supplier.
As always thank you for your support of our youth rugby program.

Tomorrow’s planned tournament at Lake Highlands Park has been canceled as the city of Dallas has determined that the fields are not playable due the wet conditions.
There is a possibility that it will be re-scheduled for next Saturday at Jesuit.
For those of you who came out and played against Jesuit last night well done. We did better than expected given the limited time we’ve had to practice and for the new players to learn the game.
Please follow up on the items mentioned in the last e-mail Of paramount importance is registering and paying the $125 through PSA. This will enable us to register with USA, Texas and West rugby unions, which is a requirement before we can play any officially sanctioned rugby match.
Access www.psaplano.org and register online with a credit card or call 972 208 5437 and register over the phone with a credit card or visit PSA (6500 Preston Meadows Drive) and register and pay by cash, check or credit card.

Please read through all of this email as there are several topics to be digested.
1. Match Against Jesuit
Tomorrow. Thursday January 18th we are tentatively playing a U19/U17 scrimmage against Jesuit at Jesuit. Their field has new artificial turf so it won't matter if it is still wet tomorrow. Temperatures should be a little higher than they have been the pas few days but come dressed prepared for the cold. However, please check the web site at www.planorugby.com" www.planorugby.com between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm to see if there is any cancellation announcement.
We'll car pool down and players should plan to meet at the CityplacePlaceNamePlano PlaceNameRec. PlaceTypeCenter at 5:30 pm.
Jesuit is at 12345 Inwood road just south of LBJ. Directions are - go south on the Dallas North Tollway and take the Alpha exit. At the lights go straight and cross over Alpha (you are now on Inwood road). This will take you over the LBJ freeway. Stay to the right, go through another set of lights and look for the PlaceNameplaceJesuit PlaceTypeSchool sign and entrance on the right and pull into the parking lot. The match is in the main stadium.
2. Uniforms
Rugby shorts and socks will be available for purchase before the match. $20 for shorts, $5 for socks. Sizes are by waist size. Small = 32, Medium = 34, large = 36, XL = 38, XXL = 40. You can pay in cash or with a check made out to PSA Rugby.
3. Mouth Guard
Make sure that you have a mouth guard with you.
4. Registration
If you are committed to playing rugby this season then it is time to register with PSA and pay the registration fee of $125 for Under 17s and Under 19s. You can do this online with a credit card at www.psaplano.org or call PSA at 972 208-5437 and give your details and credit card over the phone or you can visit PSA and pay by check.
It is extremely important that this be done in the next week as we are required to pay country-regionUSA, Western and TRU rugby dues and without being registered through country-regionplaceUSA rugby a player cannot play in any official rugby match.
As well as rugby dues to the country-regionUSA, West and StateTexas rugby unions, $35 goes to PSA and we also have to pay for referees, lights at Jack Carter, field maintenance and field usage fees to the city of placeCityPlano. Anything left over we use to buy equipment such as balls etc. No one in the club gets paid for coaching or administration.
6. USA Rugby Coaching Clinic
On the week-end of February 3rd and 4th, the USA Under 19 national team coaches will be conducting a coaching clinic at Bishop Dunne school in Oak Cliff for all players on the DFW region aged 15 - 19. The seminar is all day Saturday with lunch provided and half day Sunday. The fee is $30 per player payable by credit card through the Texas Rugby Union site at www.texasrugbyunion.com and click on youth clinics. You can find more information about the clinic on this web site. Everyone is highly encouraged to attend, as the benefit of a day and a half of learning techniques from this high a level of coaching will be very valuable to our team.
There will be no placeCityPlano rugby matches or practices on the week-end of this coaching clinic to enable as many players to go as possible. Directions to Bishop Dunne school are on our web site and arrangement s for car pooling will be made.
7. Spring Mreak Match
One of our cup matches this season is scheduled on Thursday, March 1st against Jesuit in placeCityPlano. If the match has to be postponed because of bad weather on the Thursday, then the back up date is Saturday, March 3rd. which is the start of the PISD spring break. If the match on Saturday is necessary, it will be played in the morning at 11:00 o'clock, so please make Spring break arrangements accordingly.
8. Sping Break Jesuit Tournament
Every year on the last week-end of the PISD schools spring break, Jesuit Prep has a tournament at their school that includes schools from other states and from Houston and Austin. We have found this tournament to be very useful to getting players back into shape after the spring break so please make your spring break arrangements accordingly as we are required to pay a participation fee of $150 in advance.
9. Web Site
To facilitate communications we periodically place announcements on our web site at www.planorugby.com. In addition to information such as the match schedule, field closings due to weather etc. the web site contains maps and directions to matches, basic primer information for beginning players, some YouTube video rugby clips, and several other sections of interest. Please make yourselves familiar with the web site and get used to checking it regularly.
10. Team Roster
Attached is the latest U19/U17 team roster. Shortly we'll set up a telephone tree so that we can get communications out quickly.
11. Match Schedule
Also attached is the match schedule as it currently stands. This is also on the web site so check periodically to see if any changes or updates have been made to it. We have planned to have separate U17 matches this season to be played before the U19s matches but we have to get our numbers up as we do not have sufficient players in both groups to be able to run two full teams at the moment. Please get active recruiting and also talk to the Ads in your school about getting information out.
OK, now read through this again and make yourself a list of what you need to do and what you need to remember.
If you have any questions of the coaches or administrators, their phone numbers are here
